The Kruger Park is the glistening jewel of game reserves in Africa. This massive game reserve was founded in the early 1900's on the eastern lowveld of South Africa. It is home to the Big 5 plus many more. This area also has the greatest collection of birds with the greatest variety of colour anywhere in the region. Kruger is the birding mother lode of South Africa with so much to offer that it fully justifies a long stay. We have designed this tour to provide you ample time in each area. This 'MEGA' tour is also available in a 'LITE' version.

Day 1-2 Centurion - Berg en Dal

You will be collected from your guest house in Centurion at 0900 and transported directly Kruger's Malelane gate. Here we will cross over the Crocodile River, sign into the park and before make our way to our first rest camp at Berg and Dal. This first day will be a long haul but worth every inch of the trip. We will stay here for two nights and be able to track down the many species of birds that inhabit this camp and its surroundings.

Day 3-4 Berg en Dal - Lower Sabie

This morning we drive east along winding gravel roads, along river beds and adjoining forests to our next destination. Lower Sabie sits squarely on the Sabie River. The main deck, restaurant as well as the safari tents overlook the river which is picturesque. Just round the corner is the legendary Sunset Dam where a host of both bird and wildlife is to be found.

Day 5-6 Lower Sabie - Satara

Today we head off north to big game country where the bush gives way to savannah grassland. The is excellent game viewing area and bird-life in and around the camp is prolific. At night you will hear night-jars, owls, fruit bats and of course lions. We will spend time traversing the area doing morning and evening game drives and taking advantage of the rustic facilities.

Day 7-8 Satara - Letaba

Now for another change of scenery as we head north into Mopani country and possibly the loveliest camp in Kruger. Sitting astride the Letaba River this camp bungalows are set out in traditional circles under evergreen trees. With Bush-Buck, Vervet monkeys and unsurpassed bird-life this camp is in a league of its own.

Day 9-10 Letaba - Shingwedzi

Our northern trek continues to Shingwedzi and the northern woodland area. This rustic camp is arranged in two circles and provides the unsurpassed feeling of being in the wild. Particularly in summer the floodplain around Shingwedzi becomes the home for thousands of migrant birds from Europe and Asia. The nesting sites along the Kanniedood dam area particularly dense.

Day 11-12 Shingwedzi - Punda Maria

The road to the north continues as we cross the Tropic of Capricorn. The Ebony Jackal-berries, clusters of Fever-trees, Lala-palms, Acacias, Figs and Leadwoods vegetation is dictated by the quality of the soil. Both the Dzundwini Loop and the Mphongolo Loop will provide us with great opportunities to see birds in this area. From Punda Maria we will also be able to make our way to the extreme corner of Kruger and Crooks Corner where three countries meet.

Day 13-14 Punda Maria - Mopani

Today we begin our move south to Mopani camp which we side stepped on our way north. Mopani has a really rustic and desolated feel about it but is situated on the Pioneer dam where there is every chance of seeing not only game but the majestic African Fish Eagle. We will spend our rest day taking in the sites in the surrounding areas.

Day 17-18 Satara - Skukuza  

Today we head further south to the head quarters of the Kruger where it pretty much all began nearly 100 years ago. This is the largest camp in Kruger and has much to offer in terms of birding and recreation. If you have not bought your curios this is your last stop. Our rest day will be spent at Lake Panic, an absolute must see for all birding fanatics.
